Little Johnny The Movie at the LA Comedy Festival

Media release from Instinct Entertainment.

Following on from a ground breaking world premiere season at The Melbourne International Comedy Festival Instinct Entertainment’s new Australian animated comedy movie Little Johnny The Movie has been selected as the opening film of the LA Comedy Festival.

Instinct Entertainment, the team behind the hit Paul Hogan comedies, Strange Bedfellows and Charlie & Boots, has created a very funny movie which pioneers a whole new genre in Australian cinema and finally gives adults the opportunity to be kids again. Featuring the voices of Kevin “Bloody” Wilson and Genevieve Morris, the movie pays homage to the timeless Little Johnny gags by introducing the world to the nine year old, redheaded boy who just may have started it all.

Producer David Redman says “Going into this project we wanted to find a new way to build audiences. Previous experience had shown that the traditional “Opening Weekend” focussed release model wasn’t going to be the right way of building an audience for this movie.

We wanted to put together a release strategy that will give the movie more time to find its audience. In short we want audiences to hear about the movie in the same way they heard their first Little Johnny joke or Kevin Bloody Wilson song – from friends at the Footy Club or at the Pub.

The first stage of this was the online and cinema screenings as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. While central Melbourne is not really where the audience for Little Johnny the Movie is the level of exposure and publicity achieved has been better than we could have hoped for and the movie has been written about in the industry trade publications, National newspapers and even in International media like Reuters.

The next stage will be the National tour in which the movie screens at clubs, pubs and other venues around the country and this will start in Perth on May 25th and end in Sydney on August 1st. Both of these screenings will involve Kevin Bloody Wilson performing before the movie. In between these two dates the movie will screen in RSL and Sports Clubs, Pubs and venues in partnership with local groups and charities. As well as building audience in this grass roots way we will also be continuing to utilise social media and other modern marketing techniques to heighten awareness of the movie.

Being able to now start our international campaign at the LA Comedy Festival is an exciting addition to our plans.”
