‘Looking Out’ to a better future

PRESS RELEASE

‘LOOKING OUT’ marks the first short film from young Australian actor/filmmaker Tristan Artin. The raw and controversial film will be having its WORLD premiere at BYRON BAY INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 2015, taking place from March 6 – 14.

Every year countless youth enter the juvenile justice system. What happens behind closed doors is by law a mystery. This drama is a chilling walk into a world very few know anything about. It follows the journey of a young man as he fights to survive his time in captivity. On the cusp of adulthood and forced to confront his past, will he be able to break his vicious cycle or will the tensions and hardships of confinement push him over the edge?

Attracting internationally recognised Australian talent including award winning Cinematographer Steve Arnold (Mad Bastards, Disgrace, Separation City), film editor Jenny Hicks (Mad Bastards), sound specialist Tim Lloyd (The Convict, 33 Postcards, The Clinic), and sound designer Frank Lipson (Romeo + Juliet, Chopper, The Adventures of Tintin), the film deals with the realities of spending time within a juvenile facility, revealing the complexities of the circumstances faced by these young men and women, hopefully resulting in a more understanding and compassionate perception towards them. “Creating awareness is the first step towards change, and we’re hoping this film will be a catalyst for improvement.”

Shot onsite a real juvenile facility, the film aims to shine a light on this extremely important issue and give voice to those who have until now largely been ignored.

Chosen to screen as part of Byron Bay’s School Sessions, the film will have the opportunity to reach over 1000 local students, before later having its INTERNATIONAL premiere at PALM BEACH INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL in Miami, FL.
