Magna Presents End to End Solutions at Sportscasting Conference and Expo

PRESS RELEASE

Magna Systems and Engineering will be presenting a range of next generation, end to end solutions at the Sportscasting Conference and Expo on 7-8 October at Etihad Stadium, Melbourne.

Magna Systems Director of Marketing Ian Fellows explained, “Magna Systems has been architecting, building and supporting systems for over four decades. We consistently provide systems that deliver real business benefits; and that are agile to cope with today’s ever changing requirements. We choose best of breed, proven products and integrate them into end to end solutions using methodologies and processes successfully applied in numerous complex media environment deployments including free to air, OTT and second screen.”

At this years exhibition Magna will be demonstrating solutions from Aerialtronics, RTS Telex, Ikegami, ChyronHego, FileCatalyst and Cambridge Imaging.

Aerialtronics Australasia is home of the highly-acclaimed Altura series of unmanned aircraft systems that are perfect for outside broadcasts and live events. Altura aircraft are capable of carrying relatively large payloads and providing stable high quality images over extended periods. At the Sportscasting expo Magna will demonstrate how an Altura aircraft can work seamlessly with bi-directional high definition linking systems and cameras for sportscasting and ENG applications.

In the world of intercom and talkback there are few with better histories and pedigrees than RTS Telex. At the Sportscasting expo Magna will highlight RTS’ key competencies in this field by demonstrating a combined ADAM-M matrix and OMNEO system using KP32CLD-OKI, KP32-OKI and KP12CLD keypanels. The system will also be trunked, using the new TM-10K Trunk Master, into a V-link (virtual matrix) server which in turn interconnects “smart” devices such as iPhones, iPads and Android devices converting them into programmable keypanels that can then form part of the talkback system.

On the stand from Ikegami will be the high performance HDK-55 full digital HDTV portable camera system with superb picture quality and system versatility for studio and field production. Boasting newly developed FPGA with advanced full digital process ASIC and clever video processing technology to maximise the benefit of 16-bits, the HDK-55 also offers 2/3-inch 2.3 Mega pixel AIT CCDs (1080i/59.94Hz, 50Hz), a docking style camera body, camera operator assist functions and a lens aberration correction function.

Ikegami also offer their Hi Motion II HD ultra slow motion camera to the world of sportscasting. Employing 3-chip image capture technology the Hi Motion II is used by sports broadcasters around the world as it provides high quality, reliable and continuous live video output. The Hi Motion II also simultaneously records ultra slow motion images during replay.

Finally from Ikegami on the stand will be a range of monitors including their HEM-2570W, 25" OLED monitor and HLM-905WR 9", HLM-5003WR Triple 5" and HLM-1751WR 17" LCD Monitors.

Also on the Magna Systems stand will be the unique Paint system from ChyronHego. Paint is a powerful sports production analysis tool designed specifically for the needs of sports broadcasters and boasts a feature-rich set of tools and simplicity of use. A highly productive tool that can be used by anybody within a sports production team, Paint is used to visually analyse game-play within sport by graphically enhancing and highlighting video using a variety of telestration tools. Within a typical hour of a game, dozens of telestrated clips can be created either live, or stored ready for near-live replays or post match analysis.

For data transfer it’s hard to beat FileCatalyst in the world of sportscasting. Founded in 2000 FileCatalyst has more than one thousand clients and a user base of over one million. The company provides software-based solutions designed to accelerate and optimise file transfers across global networks. Being immune to packet loss and latency, FileCatalyst can send files much faster than methods such as FTP, HTTP or CIFS, while adding security and reliability. At the recent 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics NBC Sports Group used FileCatalyst to ensure reliable and secure transfers of all event coverage citing the platform’s ability to deal with extreme concurrency and its seamless handling of the challenges of transferring dynamic video files as the core reasons for their decision.

Bringing all the data collected together at a sporting event in an efficient, effective and useable manner is becoming an increasingly difficult exercise and one which Magna Systems answers with the help of Cambridge Imaging Systems and their Imagen media asset management solution. Imagen contains a number of modules that are designed to work together in a coordinated way to reduce the manual intervention required to manage very large amounts of media and data. It is possible to use Imagen as a complete media asset management system, with a customisable website for publishing online and Imagen is an ideal solution in today’s world of data heavy and hungry sportscasting.

Ian Fellows concluded, “We invite all the attendees of the Sportscasting Conference and Expo to view our stand and get personalised one on one demos. One thing we want to stress is that we have the answers, whether they be in-house productions, OTT, second screen or OB. With over 45 years experience in this field Magna Systems is particularly well placed to offer the best and most accurately tailored solutions in the world of sportscasting.”
