Mother of Rock in development

Press release from Decade Films

Decade Films is pleased to announce the addition of the feature film Mother of Rock to its development slate. Australian writer John Alsop (Leaving of Liverpool, RAN, My Place) will pen the screenplay inspired by Robert Milliken’s biography of Lillian Roxon, the trailblazing Australian rock journalist.

We’re thrilled to have someone of John’s calibre working with us. His ability to write great women characters and his knowledge of music from the period make him a great choice for a project like this” said Ray Quint, principal of Decade Films.

Alsop joins an impressive team of award winning writers on Decade’s exciting and varied slate. Other projects include the romantic comedy Friends Upstairs, a UK co-production with Julie Baines of Dan Films, written by Steve Wright, political mystery Fathers/Daughters by Sue Smith (Brides of Christ, Bastard Boys) for the ABC, historical romance Hiroshima by Keith Thompson (Clubland) and the psychological thriller Dust adapted from the young adult novel Broken Glass and penned by highly acclaimed playwright Patricia Cornelius with Andrew Bovell (Lantana) script editing.

Sydney based Decade Films principals are Ray Quint, award winning Producer/Director of Bastard Boys, Veronika Jenet, Oscar nominated Editor of The Piano, Rabbit Proof Fence, and The Waiting City and ex ABC and film marketing Producer Suzanne Brown who is the lead producer on Mother of Rock.

“Set in New York in the heady days of 1968, this is an international story about an incredibly talented Australian woman who was ahead of her time in so many ways.” said Suzanne.
