Name This Film launches on Thursday

Press release from Name This Bar

Filmmakers, budding filmmakers and those who just love film can all be a part of the most unique film project in Australia! Head to Name This Bar on Thursday February 10 and be involved in the launch of Name This Film.

Capitalising on their kudos of hosting unique art competitions, exhibitions and events, the ever-changing Oxford Street venue, Name This Bar has now moved into film, announcing the launch of Name This Film. This collaborative film project is the brainchild of Name This Bar and independent film house, Marshmallow Productions.

Name This Bar owner, Simon Mercier says the bar will be used as the setting with patrons invited to submit their mini episode ideas and then filmmakers, writers and actors can join Marshmallow in the episode production.

He says: “The premise of each episode is a fusion of reality and fiction. Name This Bar patrons will develop episode themes with scripts generated by interested writers. Each will be filmed live in the bar and then post work will be completed by marshmallow, creating a unique feature. Its kind of like Seinfeld meets Coyote Ugly.”

This savvy film project commences with a teaser already developed by Name This Bar and Marshmallow. Anyone interested in writing, filming, acting in or producing an episode can do so in the upcoming episodes that will be created over the next 6.

Characters within the film will cross paths throughout the separate episodes, each with its own theme. The finished film will be a playful look at modern morality within relationships within and around the hospitality scene.

Simon Mercier is excited about the potential for this film and says his regular patrons can’t wait to get involved. “There is such a buzz about it. I always wanted to extend the free styling approach to art and culture that Name This Bar is built on. Film was a natural extension for the hub of creative’s that love to use the bar to showcase their artistic expressions. Marshmallow is making this happen. It’s a win/win for the bar and our patrons.”

Marshmallow’s Ulysses Oliver says: “We’ve always wanted to put enough shorts from different filmmakers together and actually make a feature. Collaborating with Name This Bar has given us the creative core. I can’t wait to see where it goes. The quality of the raw footage will be a treat to work with.”

Name This Film launches with the preview of the Teaser this Thursday, February 10, 2011 from 7:30pm at Name This Bar, 197 Oxford Street, Darlinghurst. All interested parties can visit www.namethisbar.com.au or www.namethisfilm.com.au for invitation availability.
