National Geographic moves into The Playroom

By Amanda Diaz

The distribution of the National Geographic channels will be handled by The Playroom, it was announced today.

The company, a division of Omnilab Media, will be in charge of the playout of the National Geographic Channel, Nat Geo Wild and the Nat Geo Adventure channels in Australia and New Zealand.

Negotiations commenced in early 2010, with a multi-year contract being signed.

National Geographic managing director Karin Simoncini said in a statement that the partnership would provide the National Geographic channels with the flexibility to expand the business and increase their popularity with Australian viewers.

“We believe Omnilab is the right partner to support the growing technical and presentation needs of our group,” she said.

The Playroom is also responsible for the broadcast playout of MTV NZ and The Movie Network Channels.

The National Geographic channels air on Foxtel, Austar, Optus and Sky TV NZ.
