NCIS producer in Australia for screenwriters conference

Having conquered Hollywood, Australian screenwriter and producer Shane Brennan is returning home for the Australian Writers’ Guild National Screenwriters Conference on Phillip Island from 16-18 February 2011.

Brennan is Executive Producer of NCIS, and Creator and Executive Producer of NCIS: Los Angeles, the number one and number two scripted series in American television, based on the Naval Criminal Investigation Service.

Appropriate then, that this year’s conference has a theme of Just Shoot Me: Getting the Script on the Screen.

The National Screenwriters Conference will bring together leading local and international screenwriters and industry professionals, to develop creative and commercial partnerships, analyse industry developments and foster creativity and innovation.

The 3-day conference is a must for every writer in the television, film and gaming industry, and for those who want to break into the industry. It will be packed to the brim with masterclasses, including one with Shane Brennan (exclusively for full members of the AWG), panel discussions and networking opportunities with top industry identities in attendance.

Big names on the bill include David Williamson AO (there will be a special tribute to David), US screenwriter, director and producer, Nicholas Meyer (credited with revitalizing the Star Trek franchise), Cracker’s Jimmy McGovern, John Collee of Happy Feet fame and Jan Sardi (Shine, Mao’s Last Dancer, The Notebook).

“Following the success of last year’s conference, the 2011 NSC will place Australian screenwriters where they belong, at the heart of the industry”, says Australian Writers’ Guild President Tim Pye.

The conference will feature sessions such as: What Women Want, With a Little Help from my Friends: Alternative Funding, Writing for an international market: An Australian Voice with a Foreign Accent, Ten Ways to F**k Up a Perfectly Good Comedy and Cross-Dressing is Fun!: Writing Multi-Platform.
