Nine rising directors say G’day USA

The new tax incentives have seen a flurry of interest from the U.S. in Australian talent and production opportunities. In response, the Film Finance Corporation and Magic Films will present a showcase of nine of Australia’s most promising directors at a special event during Australia Week (G’DAY USA) in Los Angeles in January. Also lending their support to the event is top U.S. talent firm United Talent Agency.

The initiative, titled Pulse: Australian Directors’ Showcase, will shine the light on nine talented directors, who have each been invited to screen a new short film as part of a feature length presentation. The event will be held at Paramount Studios in Hollywood and be followed by a post screening celebration, where guests will have the opportunity to meet the directors featuring in the showcase.

Growing from its inception in 2004, Australia Week is now the largest foreign country promotion held annually in the United States showcasing all things Australian.

A special Sneak Peek of the showcase will screen at Palace Academy Twin in Sydney on December 19, 2007.

‘The driving force of Australia’s feature film future is in the hands of the next generation of creative directors. Pulse is the ideal showcase to see the work of some of these up and coming feature film directors,’ said Brian Rosen, Chief Executive of FFC Australia.

Film and television executives, key authorities from the film community and a number of prominent Australians are expected to attend the Sydney and Los Angeles events.
