Pacific Broadcast Expands OB Multi-Viewer Capabilities

OB and production specialists Pacific Broadcast have expanded their multi-viewer capabilities with their recent purchase of a Miranda Kaleido Modular multi-viewer solution from Magna Systems and Engineering.

Pacific Broadcast’s Matt Percy explained, “One of our OB trucks – OB2 – needed a flexible, fast and reliable multi-viewer so we discussed our options with Magna and decided on the Miranda Kaleido Modular system as the best solution for our requirements."

As a dense, quad-split multi-viewer the Kaleido-Modular provided Pacific Broadcast’s OB truck with a space-saving, low noise and energy-efficient solution that offered up to 20 multi-viewer outputs in its 3RU frame.

Percy continued, “We liked the fact that it’s a series of cards that make up the Kaleido modular system as that means it can be configured as cascaded or individual head outputs and can be easily moved around to suit changing requirements. Aside from being very flexible it also has a high level of redundancy as you can swap out the cards so it’s pretty ideal for our outside broadcast work.”

The Kaleido-Modular multi-viewer was first used by Pacific Broadcast on a number of ASP surfing tour events throughout Australia, events that always have a great deal of vision to monitor at any one time.

Percy added, “The Kaleido-Modular multi-viewer worked really well for the surfing events. We’ve also used it on more ‘land-based’ productions for the free to air networks too and again, no issues. We do also like the fact that the Kaleido integrates the tallys automatically via RS422, automatically updates the mnemonics and seamlessly talks to our GV Kayenne switcher. It’s a great product and that combined with the excellent service and support we got from Magna – their delivery time was spectacularly quick by the way – has made the entire purchase a very worthwhile one."
