Canadian and Australian Independent Producers to Forge Closer Ties

CANNES, France, May 20, 2013
—The Canadian Media Production Association (CMPA) and the
Screen Producers Association of Australia (SPAA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding
(MOU). This MOU establishes a framework of cooperation and is intended to enhance co-production
opportunities between Canadian and Australian independent screen-based producers.

“Excellent content knows no borders, especially in the digital economy. It just has to resonate with
consumers,” says Michael Hennessy, President and CEO, CMPA. “The co-production model is the
path to supporting quality productions as the industry at large focuses on audiences around the
globe.”

Both Association Presidents complimented their respective governments for encouraging economic
and cultural exchanges between Australia and Canada.

“There is a natural linguistic, cultural, production and regulatory affinity between our two countries,” says                                                                                Matthew Deaner, Executive Director of SPAA. “Combine that with two strong story-telling traditions, and you                                                                                 have a winning formula for on-screen content that will engage internationally.”
