Queer Screen calls for donations

Press release from Queer Screen

Dear Queer film lovers,

today Queer Screen is launching our annual donations drive.

This year we are targeting $50,000

and this year we REALLY need your help, your money or your time.
We know this target is big,
but this year a number of big changes have kicked in for Queer Screen.

Your Support:
After a very successful Mardi Gras Film Festival this year, the Board of Queer Screen initiated significant changes to our organisational structure. These changes were required due to an ongoing trend down in local, state and federal government funding for film events like ours and the continued scarcity of commercial sponsorship. Changes we cannot ignore.

Whilst we had good ticket sales this year and kept our running costs right down, the bottom line is that a lot less money is available to us than in previous years. We need our community's support in order to bridge the gap.

Your Money:
With a target of $50,000 we will need some quite large donations. Queer Screen is a charity and all donations made to QS are tax deductible.

Just like last year, everyone who donates considerable cash or time will be invited to a party where plans for the year ahead will be discussed, making you, our key stakeholders, a part of our decision process. We are dedicated to allowing our significant donors to be involved in how their gift is spent.

Your donation will:
• Keep queerDOC and the Mardi Gras Film Festival running
• Support Queer Screen in developing a new filmmaker residency program, which will allow Queer Screen to diversify in the future.

Your Time:
It is going to be a bigger challenge than normal to stage the 2012 Mardi Gras Film Festival. To pull it off we will need to draw on the time of talented individuals from Sydney's queer and film communities.

As Sydney's longest running LGBTI arts organisation we are here to ensure Queer stories are heard, discussed, enjoyed and understood. We are committed to making MGFF 2012 as big and as beautiful as this year's popular festival.

If you would like to help us in June and July with this donation drive or next month with planning for QueerDoc please get in touch at: volunteer@queerscreen.com.au

We need expert volunteers in all areas of our operation but will build key working groups with skills in Filmmaking, Fundraising, Finance, Accounting, Publicity, and Online Marketing. If you would like to volunteer for a 2012 Mardi Gras Film Festival working group please see our website for more details.

Most importantly, to help Queer Screen produce our Film Festivals we need your donation NOW and your help getting this message out to your friends.

Please pass this email on!

Thank you for your support
