Press release from Flickerfest

Flickerfest on Extra blasts back onto to our TV screens this Friday night with acclaimed actress Rachel Griffiths. We go behind the scenes with Rachel who gives us the low down on her directing career in short films from the comfort of her lounge room in LA.

See Rachel’s award winning and very moving short film ‘Roundabout’ starring David Roberts from ‘The Square’ and hear her share her thoughts on making her film, her journey from directing to acting and the importance of telling these kind of stories.

Animation also shares the spotlight in this bumper episode. We screen Glen Hunwick’s funny and poignant claymation masterpiece ‘Mutt’, about a disgruntled farmer, his cow and a hardworking dog. Nominated for an AFI award Glen talks with our host Damian Walshe-Howling about the fascinating and time-consuming process of making claymation and his passion for this art form.

Australian animation has received many awards and much recognition around the world as one of our most successful exports. In our directors toolkit this week, we go into the time -consuming process of animation that is rarely acknowledged or understood and learn from the filmmakers themselves the dedication that it takes to crack it in this world. Australian companies like Animal Logic are leading the way in cutting-edge animation. We talk to Senior Animators that worked on ‘Happy Feet’ to get the insider’s perspective on what it takes to make it in the big league of animation and see fun behind-the-scenes footage of this Academy® Award-winning feature film.
