SAFC ANNOUNCES $100,000 FOR TWO SHORT FILMS

The South Australian Film Corporation today announced that two short films will be funded through its 2014 Short Film Fund.

Each project will receive $50,000 in funding with a combined SAFC investment of $100,000.

The Short Film Fund Production Investment Program invests in the production of high quality short films that will provide production experience and national and international festival exposure for emerging South Australian creative talent.

Applications were assessed by an industry committee according to creative and professional development criteria.

“There was a strong field of candidates, each with different and compelling short film proposals. In the end the assessment committee felt that the two strongest projects both justified SAFC investment, and we were pleased to be in a position to be able to green-light both films” confirmed SAFC CEO Richard Harris.

From a field of nine applicants, the two projects selected are as follows:

Project 1: Say Nothing
Team: Marion Pilowsky (Writer/Director), Lee Sellars (Co-Writer), Christine Williams (Producer)
Synopsis: “At a dinner party, a group of people are reunited a year after the death of one of their friends. During the evening, relationships crack to breaking point and actions not taken may have lifelong consequences.”

Project 2: The Cordial Misadventures of Captain Invisible and the Winged Wonder (working title)*
Team: Matt Vesely (Writer/Director), Sophie Hyde & Christine Williams (Co-Producers).
Synopsis: “Connor, a perennially friend-zoned doormat, has got his best friend – and the completely oblivious love of his life – Rach, an amazing birthday present. Something that’s sure to blow her away. But, things take a turn for the strange, and pretty soon Connor begins to wonder whether he would have been better off going with a gift voucher.”
