SAFC launches TV MiniLab

Press release from MB Publicity

The South Australian Film Commission (SAFC) is pleased to announce the launch of TV MiniLab on Monday 6 September.

The four week intensive program will bring together 28 of South Australia’s (selected) brightest writers, directors and producers, with a focus on creative outcomes for television.

The SAFC received 47 applicants from writers, producers and directors for the TV MiniLab, with a total of 27 writers, producers and directors selected for the four week lab style program. The assessors were producer, Gus Howard (Rain Shadow, Blue Heelers) and producer/director Ric Pellizzeri (Neighbours). Six directors were selected for the directing master class, which will be presented by Ric Pellizzeri and Lisa McCune.

“The TV MiniLab program will help local SA filmmakers develop TV production as part of their production slate and business plans, with a view to developing a viable TV sector alongside our existing award winning feature and documentary industry.” said Defrim Isai, the SAFC’s General Manager, Industry Development & Production.

The keynote speaker on Monday’s MiniLab launch will be Underbelly producer and industry heavyweight Des Monaghan. Other distinguished speakers include writer and creator Tony Morphett (Blue Heelers/Water Rats), comedian, presenter, and writer Tim Ferguson, and actress Lisa McCune.

The MiniLab program will include a number of sessions open to the public including screenings, talks by industry leaders such as film journalist and screen writer, Rachel Turk and Gus Howard (Rain Shadow/Blue Heelers), and Q&As with Tony Morphett and Working Dog’s Santo Cilauro (Frontline/The Panel).

Commenting on the program, SAFC CEO Richard Harris said, “Here’s an opportunity for local filmmakers to have access to the expertise of the country’s finest practitioners in the television industry and really sharpen their focus and skills. With the new state of the art studios opening at Glenside next year, it is our intention to develop an exciting and vibrant television industry for South Australia in the very near future. TV MiniLab will help to realise that goal.”
