SBS On Demand has commissioned a new comedy-drama, Homecoming Queens.

The semi-autobiographical series about two 20-somethings is written and created by Michelle Law, writer of the acclaimed theatre production at La Boite Theatre Company, Single White Asian, and Chloë Reeson, who was shortlisted for the John Marsden & Hachette Prize for Young Writers.

Screen Australia has confirmed production investment, in association with Screen Queensland and Film Victoria, for the online series that will screen as one 60 minute special and 7 x 8 minute episodes in 2018. The series begins filming in Brisbane in November.

Law will star in the series next to Liv Hewson, who returns to Australia after roles in Netflix’s Santa Clarita Diet, Before I Fall and the upcoming BBC First drama shot in Sydney, Top of the Lake: China Girl.

The series is produced by Katia Nizic for Generator Pictures and directed by Corrie Chen (Mustangs FC).

Homecoming Queens developed from Chen and Law’s previous collaboration on their short film Bloomers.
