SBS Screens 2013 Deadly Awards

PRESS RELEASE

SBS and NITV again get set to proudly broadcast The 2013 Deadly Awards®. The ceremony truly is a star studded night of entertainment and excellence held annually at the Sydney Opera House.

The National Indigenous Music, Sport, Entertainment and Community Awards (aka the Deadlys®) is in its 19th year and is Australia’s largest event on the national calendar, showcasing the achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the nation.

The Deadlys® also plays a major role in showcasing Indigenous talent in the Australian music scene, having started in 1995 as the Australian National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Music Awards.

In fact, The Deadlys® has it all; fashion, comedy, music and fun, complete with glamorous divas, sporting stars, Olympic athletes and pop princesses just to name a few.

The awards also have a serious side as they pay respect to sporting legends of the past and honour the nation's 'quiet achievers' in Indigenous health, education and employment.

Two of Australia's brightest stars, Luke Carroll and singing sensation Casey Donovan will again host this year’s awards that will feature stunning musical performances from Jessica Mauboy, Christine Anu and the legendary Archie Roach. There will also be a tribute to the late great Dr Yunupingu by a stellar ensemble cast.

As the anticipation builds to find out who has been the most deadly in 2013, finalists include 2011 winners of the Most Popular Television Show of the Year, Living Black, and NITV News, nominated for Journalism Story of the Year.

“2012 was a fantastic event at the Opera House in front of a capacity crowd. We are preparing for a show that offers the highest standard of performance from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, and one which puts achievement and outstanding contribution centre stage,” Founder and Executive Producer of the Deadly Awards® Gavin Jones says. “The Deadlys® will have all the excitement of a national awards night, and capture the year that was in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australia.”

So for a fast-paced night of entertainment, glitz, glamour and grass-roots musicianship that is uniquely Australian be watching The Deadlys® only on SBS and NITV.

Sunday 15th of September at 9:30pm on SBS ONE
Wednesday 18th of September at 9:30pm on NITV

The Deadly Awards are produced by the Deadly Vibe Group and have been proudly broadcast on SBS for the past 11 years.
