Sydney Film Festival Jury President, Rolf de Heer, announced Bronson as the winner of the 2009 Sydney Film Prize at the State Theatre on the closing night of the festival. Other winners included:

Foxtel Australian Documentary Prize has been awarded to two separate films.

When the documentary prize jury led by eminent TV journalist George Negus, announced that Contact and A Good Man were films of equally high calibre, Foxtel CEO Kim Williams rose to the occasion by doubling the prize money with $10,000 going to each film.

Winner of the 2009 Dendy Award Best Live Action Short is Miracle Fish directed by Luke Doolan and produced by Drew Bailey.

Winner of the 2009 Yoram Gross Animation Award is The Cat Piano directed by Eddie White and Ari Gibson and produced by Jessica Brentnall.

Winner of the 2009 CRC Award is Missing Water directed and produced by Khoa Do, sponsored by the Community Relations Commission For a multicultural NSW.

Winner of the Rouben Mamoulian Award for Best Overall Short Film is The Ground Beneath directed by Rene Hernandez and produced by Kristina Ceyton.

The Peter Rasmussen Innovation Award was given to Michela Ledwidge.
