Shrek writer to speak at guild conference

Following the recent announcement that Sex and the City’s Darren Star will present at the 2009 National Screenwriters Conference, the Australian Writers’ Guild is delighted to announce that David N. Weiss, one of Hollywood’s hottest animation writers, has also joined the lineup of guest speakers.

Weiss is the formidable talent behind some of the most successful animated features and TV series of all time including Shrek 2, the highest grossing animated feature film ever made. He co-wrote The Rugrats Movie and Rugrats in Paris, also two of the highest grossing traditional animated features in movie history.

He received an Oscar nomination for the script of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius and garnered an Emmy nomination as head writer of the Rugrats series. In an exclusive members only Masterclass, Weiss will discuss what it takes to achieve critical and commercial success in Hollywood.

The 2009 National Screenwriters Conference will be held in South Australia’s Barossa Valley from 25-27 February 2009 and is a must for every writer working in film, television and new media.

Featuring masterclasses, panel discussions, case studies, networking opportunities and mentorships with many of the screen industry’s biggest names including Ten Canoes writer/director Rolf de Heer, Andrew Bovell (Lantana), The Black Balloon’s AFI winning writer/director Elissa Down, and Oscar nominated Jan Sardi (Shine) whose new feature Mao’s Last Dancer will premiere in 2009.
