SMPTE youth prize up for grabs

[press release from SMPTE09]

The 2009 SMPTE Conference & Exhibition will again foster the future of the motion imaging industry with the Young Industry Person’s Award.

The award will offer young members of the industry, living outside the greater Sydney area, the opportunity to receive financial assistance to attend SMPTE09, July 21-24 2009, Sydney Conference & Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour.

SMPTE09 will give young industry members the opportunity to attend South-East Asia’s premier event for the motion imaging industries. Here they will gain invaluable information and see demonstrations of the new and improved products and services providing solutions and technology in all fields of media, including broadcast engineering, graphics and animations, multimedia, SFX and post-production. By investing in the future of the industry, YIPA complements SMPTE’s theme for 2009, ‘Empowering the next generation’.

Open to young industry members who work in the operational or technical areas of Film, Television, Radio, Broadcast and associated Media industries, YIPA will provide free admission to the conference and financial assistance towards travel and accommodation costs while attending SMPTE09. The amount of funding an applicant receives will be based on the individual’s living location from the official point, Martin Place in Sydney – AU$500 for travel distances from 100km up to 999km and AU$1,000 for distances over 1000km.

To qualify for this award, applicants must be Australian or New Zealand residents, less than thirty years of age on the opening day of the conference and have a strong desire to improve their knowledge of the technical aspects of their chosen career.
