Press release from SPAA

The Screen Producers Association of Australia (SPAA) will hold its annual SPAA Conference from 13 to 16 November at the Hilton in Sydney, New South Wales.

The challenges ahead for producers as Australia positions itself for structural change to our current media environment will be central to this year’s conference.

The debate continues for the film and television industry in understanding the digital revolution and what the business structures and creative issues will be for content producers, professional film and program makers.

The Convergence Review, which is currently examining future policy and regulatory frameworks in a multi-platform environment, will be closely examined. SPAA has submitted several recommendations to the Convergence Review Panel focussing on the future of Australian content in the new digital landscape.

Key to the review will be the extent to which all major stakeholders agree on a framework for the future post-analogue switch off in 2013 and how it is to take shape. SPAA is concerned to ensure that local content provisions sit front and centre in the Convergence Review Panel's recommendations to Government.

The conference program will once again focus on four key strands to include 360, Feature, Kids and TV with a strong emphasis on the development of strategic partnerships and all the latest changes in the financing and distribution environment.

Full details of international guests and keynote speakers together with session highlights will be announced in the lead-up to the November

SPAA will be host to many international and domestic guests who have contributed to building and developing the global screen industry over many years.

The annual conference provides a forum for the industry to forge new partnerships and business opportunities in Australia.

Delegates can expect to hear a diverse range of views and opinions over the three-day event about the new way forward from both local industry commentators and creative minds and global change-makers.

SPAA is the industry association for the independent film and television industry, providing leadership and direction on all debates concerning the economics, creative and technological future of the screen production industries in Australia. It strives to create the business conditions for the industry to compete strongly in both local and international markets.
