SPAA deadlines approach

Established in 2005 DigiSPAA is a competition designed to assist in the development of low-budget digital feature films. It embraces new ways of storytelling and self-managed distribution.

The competition is recognised as the leading showcase for low-budget digital filmmaking in Australia and New Zealand and boasts a prize pool of over $40,000 worth of prizes including $15,000 in cash and $20,000 worth of post-production courtesy of Movie Network, a guaranteed screening of their film on the Movie Extra channel, plus a return airfare and free registration to the prestigious CineMart International Film Festival Rotterdam.

SPAA Fringe Hits the Road Pitching Competition- 2 Weeks left to Apply for Round One
SPAA is calling for unique and distinct project ideas of any genre for any of the following platforms: TV, film, mobile, tablets or online. Applications are open to all Australian residents. Single or team entries are acceptable.

If your project is short-listed, you will be invited to participate in Round One, SPAA Fringe Hits the Road Pitching Competition, to be held at the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) Theatre in Sydney, Tuesday 11 October. Selected interstate participants will be eligible to apply for a small travel subsidy.

Three final contestants from round one will be chosen to pitch their project at the Holding Redlich Pitch Competition held at the SPAA Conference, November 14.

The Holding Redlich Pitching Competition will be judged by a panel of international and local industry figures, with the winner being announced during the Conference. The winner receives a return airfare for one to the Cannes Film Festival or a TV market of their choice in 2012 and a $1500 cash prize plus free registration to SPAA Conference 2012.

Emerging Producer Scheme – 2 Weeks left to Apply
The Emerging Producer Scheme is designed to subsidise and assist newer members of our industry to attend and participate in the SPAA Conference. The scheme offers select emerging producers the opportunity to attend at the approved discount rate of $770* and will help participants with the tools needed to best ‘work’ the conference. As well as a designated mentor for the three days, participants will have the opportunity to meet with senior industry figures and this year, for the first time, the opportunity to work one on one with an international producer developing and honing pitches in order to get projects ‘conference ready’.

Essential Criteria:

• Applicants must be SPAA Members
• Applicants who have previously attended a SPAA Conference, either as a full registrant, an Emerging Producer or as a speaker are not eligible to apply
• Applicants must have a demonstrated interest in pursuing a career as a producer (i.e work experience, studies in screen production or production credit)
