SPAA Fringe announces line-up

[release from Tsuki]

On 24 and 25 October 2008, SPAA Fringe will showcase an aspirational line-up, over a two day event in Sydney which is set to educate, connect and inspire filmmakers.

Now in its ninth year, top industry professionals and Australia’s rising talent will share their experiences and expertise, offering insight and creative direction for up-and-coming filmmakers seeking lasting careers in the screen industry.

SPAA Fringe is comprised of workshops, roundtables, one-on-one sessions, panel discussions, film screenings and social networking events. Information sessions with industry experts will cover everything you need to know about legals, how to pitch to broadcasters, the producer/writer relationship, scheduling and budgeting, marketing and distribution and more.

The event offers a unique opportunity for the emerging sector to spend quality time with established filmmakers, TV execs and other industry professionals and it is with great pleasure that SPAA Fringe welcomes to the stage Anthony Watt, TV Producer for comedy television shows including, Spicks & Specks, Full Frontal, Hamish & Andy, Comedy Inc; Courtney Gibson, Executive Head of Content Creation at ABC TV; and Academy Award winner Melanie Coombs, Producer, Mary and Max (2008) and Harvie Krumpet (2003).

SPAA Fringe prides itself on seeking out and profiling some of the most dynamic filmmakers who are new and making waves on the scene. Some of the creative minds that are rapidly rising in the industry who will be speaking include the dynamic duo Robert Hibbert and Sean Condon winners of The Comedy Channel’s Comedy Gold competition in 2007 for their hilarious project, I Can’t Believe It’s Not Better; Scott Anderson and Oliver Lawrance, co-directors of the extraordinary documentary, Hairtales; Benjamin Gilmour and Nathan Wellington, Producers of the newly released, Son of A Lion; and Cate McQuillen, Children’s Producer, ..dirtgirlworld, amongst others.

SPAA Fringe brings together individuals who are inspired to make media content that is innovative, creative and interactive. People who are interested in similar projects or subjects can start a discussion thread on Fringe Facebook; and the introduction of Fringe Classifieds, allows registered delegates to post an advertisement to other delegates calling for expressions of interest. This could be for producers looking for a team, writers looking for a start, or anything else your heart desires!

Of course no conference would be complete without the obligatory networking festivities including Opening and Closing Night drinks at the Paddo RSL.
