Sydney editor Kirk Baxter Australia’s best chance at Oscar win: Tom Waterhouse

Press release from Tom Waterhouse

Sydney film editor Kirk Baxter is Australia’s best chance of winning an Academy Award on Monday, according to the latest Oscars betting odds with online bookmaker tomwaterhouse.com.

Baxter, who took out last year’s Academy Award for Best Film Editing, is a $15 shot to go back to back in the category and has replaced Andy Nelson as Australia’s most likely Oscars winner.

But that is because since the Academy Awards nominations were announced it has emerged that Nelson is not Australian even though he received the Australian Centenary Medal in 2001.

“An Oscars win for Andy Nelson and War Horse in Best Sound Mixing would be a win for the United Kingdom, not Australia,” said Tom Waterhouse, Managing Director of tomwaterhouse.com.

“A record five Australians won Academy Awards last year, leading some people to brand them the Ozcars. Big shocks do happen in Hollywood but the odds are on an Aussie drought this year.”
