Sydney Film School Graduate’s film picked for Sundance

Press release from Sydney Film School

Brian Lye, a 2008 Sydney Film School graduate, has been selected to screen his short film LoveBirds in the international short film competition of the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, the largest independent cinema festival in the United States.

Love Birds – a beautiful and intelligent exploration of the human species – was made during Brian’s studies at FAMU, the Czech film school, where Brian was accepted after finishing his Diploma course at Sydney Film School.

A male and a female bird meet and fall in love. All is happy in their nest until their love is tested and fate comes knocking.

Written, directed and co-edited by Lye, Love Birds is a comedy that looks at the similarities between bird love and human love and shows one tragic line that connects the two worlds.

In the Czech language, with an international cast and crew, the film confirms the director’s undeniable talent already recognised through his earlier work.

Three of Lye’s Sydney Film School produced shorts already screened at numerous local and international film festivals winning awards and critical acclaim.
