The Film Critics Circle awards best film to Animal Kingdom

The FCCA celebrated the films of 2010 at an awards event held at the North Sydney Leagues Club at Cammeray in Sydney. The Awards were hosted by ABC Local Radio’s Rod Quinn, with presenters, Amanda Muggleton, Alice Ansara, Tony Delroy, Anna-Maria Monticelli and Steve
Jacobs among others.

Over 200 people attended the event, which included a Special Acknowledgement Award to composer Cezary Skubiszewski for his continued contribution to Australian cinema. Cezary also won the award for Best Music Score for Bran Nue Dae.

Another highlight of the evening was the presentation of Special Mention awards to two young actors. Lily Bell-Tindley for her role in Lou and Morgana Davies for her role in The Tree.

The major acting awards were dominated by Animal Kingdom, Jacki Weaver fresh from her Oscar® nomination won in the Best Actress Category, and Ben Mendelsohn won Best Actor. Joel Edgerton won Best actor in a supporting role.

Beneath Hill 60 received the Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Editing Awards. The Waiting City received Best Cinematography.

Essie Davis’s performance in South Solitary won Best Actress in a supporting role. Animal Kingdom took home the Best Film & Best Director Awards.

The FCCA also has two categories for overseas films. Best Foreign Language Film was won by Michael Haneke’s The White Ribbon and Best Foreign Film in English, was awarded to David Fincher’s The Social Network.

The FCCA Awards are presented by the national body of professional critics in Australia. All members of the organisation vote for these awards. They are presented annually for films released in the previous calendar year. The FCCA is a cultural non-profit organisation.
