The Girl with Dragon Tattoo enters 13th week

Media Release

Rialto Distribution is delighted to announce that THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO is now entering its 13th week and shows no signs of slowing down.

The Swedish language film, based on the first book of the international best selling ‘Millennium Trilogy’ novel of the same name by Stieg Larsson, has taken nearly $5,250,000 in 12 weeks and continues its run on over 30 screens nationally.

THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, which opened on the 25th March, is proving to be one of the biggest grossing foreign language films in Australia. Having already surpassed the success of Downfall, The Lives of Others and As It Is In Heaven, DRAGON TATTOO is rapidly gaining on successful foreign language films Hero, which took $5,732,635, Life is Beautiful and Amelie.

Rialto Distribution’s General Manager, Mike Vile says “It’s a fantastic result for the film and augurs well for the remaining two films in the trilogy. Although some people may have had reservations that it was foreign language the simple fact of the matter is that it is an exciting and tense thriller that works well as a film. The continued word of mouth is great and we should see the film still performing strongly for several more weeks”.

The second part in this thrilling trilogy, THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE, will be released in cinemas through Rialto Distribution on 23rd September 2010.
