The making of The Secretariat

The Secretariat tells the life story of Penny Chenery, owner of the racehorse Secretariat, who won the Triple Crown in 1973.

The film was the seventh feature shot by Australian cinematographer Dean Semler ASC, ACS, on the Panavision Genesis.

Semler recently told American Cinematographer magazine that he likes the Genesis' long recording time, high ISOs, and EFilm's Colorstream, which applies the look-up table that emulates the negative and the print stock.

"I've had the same crew over the last six or seven pictures and we've got the Genesis system down to a fine art," he told the magazine.

He also used an ARRI 435 and a Phantom camera during the shoot.

Semler will shoot the next instalment in the Mad Max series, Fury Road, next year.

The Secretariat is released by Disney in Australia on March 24, 2011.
