The Playroom develops VOD service for The Movie Network Channels

Press release from The Playroom

The Playroom, a leading facilitator of production infrastructure, content aggregation and broadcast services, today gave details of the moviebox.tv service and premium You Tube Channel it has developed for one of their major clients, The Movie Network Channels.

The Playroom MD Tom Kennedy said, “The Movie Network Channels is one of the most progressive media companies in Australia especially in the digital space. A few months ago they approached us to help work with them on a strategy for a subscription Video On Demand (VOD) service and the idea we came up with was moviebox.tv.”

Moviebox.tv is available on the Fetch TV service, an Australian owned business, with backing from one of Asia’s leading pay TV providers, Astro All Asia Networks. Fetch TV is working in partnership with leading internet service providers to introduce an entirely new breed of entertainment experience featuring the best of TV, video on demand, and interactive applications.

Kennedy continued, “We developed the strategy, registered the moviebox.tv domain name and set about creating the systems to deliver content to Fetch TV on a weekly basis.”

Moviebox.tv has two subscription options, a single fee for up to 30 movies per month or one movie per day where the cost is part of the viewers’ Fetch TV subscription.

The second major initiative The Playroom has helped develop for The Movie Network Channels is its premium You Tube channel (www.youtube.com/user/mnctv).

Tom Kennedy explained, “You Tube have selected premium advertising partners to attract high value content. Thus it made perfect sense for The Movie Network Channels to create their mnc.tv portal which The Playroom then developed and placed on You Tube.”

The MNC.tv premium You Tube channel is part of an innovative brand extension and digital expansion strategy to build brand loyalty for Movie Network Channels.

Kennedy added, “The Movie Network Channels is also developing content specifically for the web as part of Movie Extra Webfest, the competition that offers emerging filmmakers the opportunity to showcase their production skills and join an online community of likeminded individuals, passionate about web based mediums and the film and television industry.”

Peter Jenetsky, The Movie Network Channels General Manager Marketing and Strategy said, “The moviebox.tv portal is one of the first successful implementations of a VOD subscription service in Australia. The mnv.tv You Tube channel represents an Advertising Video on Demand model for The Movie Network Channels and a successful brand extension.

"It also brings The Movie Network Channels to a wider audience as part of a broader social media integration strategy that includes Facebook (www.facebook.com/mnctv) and Twitter (http://twitter.com/mnctv). I’m delighted to say The Playroom helped with the design, strategy and implementation of both and that they are proving to be very effective parts of The Movie Network Channels overall market positioning.”

Omnilab Media, The Playroom’s parent company, MD Christopher Mapp said, “The Playroom is the facilitator of content for moviebox.tv into the Fetch TV platform. Their facilitator role for the moviebox.tv service is also part of fulfilling our wider promise to be at the forefront of delivering content in the IPTV space in Australia and beyond. The Playroom’s strategic design and development role in mnc.tv further emphasises our commitment to creating excellence through innovative digital strategies.”
