The episode “Moons and Moats” from the second series of the popular pre-school creation, the WotWots has been nominated for Best Television Production in the Preschool category in this year’s 39th Annual Annie Awards.
The award recognises creative excellence in the art of animation for an episode from an animated television series or an animated television special produced for five year olds and under. The winners will be announced on Saturday February 4 2012 at UCLA’s Royce Hall in Los Angeles, California.
“Moons and Moats” sees DottyWot and SpottyWot needing to protect their sand castle from the sea and SpottyWot running out of bananas for his loopy-fruity drink.
“It’s a real thrill to be a finalist for this award, the Annies are recognised around the world as the key industry award in our field. So it’s a fantastic tribute to everyone on the WotWots team who have put so much heart and dedication into making the show” said co-creator, Martin Baynton.
The WotWots is an enchanting pre-school series that follows the adventures of two adorable siblings from outer space, SpottyWot and DottyWot. This delightful pair of enquiring minds have come to Earth to explore and to marvel at the extraordinary diversity of life on the blue planet. The show celebrates this joy of discovery and demonstrates the positive values that are the building blocks of a true and enduring friendship.
In season two of the vibrant, energetic and colourful learning-based series from Pukeko Pictures – seen internationally on ABC4Kids, TVNZ Kidzone24, The Hub and Treehouse, DottyWot and SpottyWot land on a farm and meet strange and friendly farm animals and then travel to the sea shore. There they discover the weird and wonderful creatures that live on the beach and in the sea. Encouraging the love of animals, the season celebrates the joy of discovery and the extraordinary diversity of life on the planet.
The WotWots is broadcast in 90 territories including the US, UK, Australia, Canada, Korea, Middle East and Poland. American Greetings Properties recently signed on for the worldwide licensing and merchandising rights to the popular preschool property.
Pukeko Pictures is a business partnership between Academy Award winner Richard Taylor the co-founder and creative lead of Weta Workshop (Lord of the Rings, King Kong), and internationally acclaimed author and children’s television creator, Martin Baynton. Taylor and Baynton previously teamed up to create the award winning children’s program, Jane and the Dragon.
