Tugg and Rooster Teeth join forces on Lazer Team

Lazer Team.

Tugg Australia will host the red carpet premiere of Lazer Team, Rooster Teeth's first feature.

Rooster Teeth is one of the most prolific online entertainment companies in the world, with more than 25 million YouTube subscribers across its network of channels.

Based in Austin, Texas, the company's web series, Red vs Blue, is the longest-running in history.

Due to the huge support from down under during Lazer Team's crowdfunding, the preem will take place in Sydney on January 22.

In 2014 the film raised more than $2.6 million on Indiegogo from 37,493 supporters – the biggest campaign in the platform's history.

Rooster Teeth will release the movie simultaneously across the world via the cinema-on-demand platform, Tugg.

Tugg reported a 1000-fold increase in web traffic on the first day pre-tickets went on sale.

In Australia the first 20 screenings of the movie were confirmed within hours, and another 50 additional screenings across Australia have been added, Tugg and Rooster Teeth said in a statement.

"Lazer Team has now become the highest-demanded and and most sold-out movie in the history of the cinema-on-demand in Australia and across the world", the companies said.

“In making Lazer Team it was always important to us that our fans all around the world would be able to see it together as one big community,” said Rooster Teeth CEO and director of the film Matt Hullum.

“Our Australian fans have been some of our most passionate and dedicated supporters, and we are so excited for the Sydney premiere on January 22, and for everyone who will get to see the film in theaters starting January 27.”

Following the Australian theatrical premiere, the crew and stars of the movie will headline the Rooster Teeth event, RTX Australia, at Sydney’s Australian Technology Park (January 23-24).

“The success of Lazer Team also proves the power of cinema on demand – a passionate audience really getting behind a movie and making it a box office success,” commented Tugg Australia's David Doepel.

“The Rooster Teeth crew stayed true to their supporters by choosing the disruptive online platform of Tugg to distribute this great comedy IRL."

"We have answered definitively and in the affirmative the question – can today’s online young audience embrace a bricks and mortar outing [to see] their favourite YouTube stars?"

"Tugg allows everyday Australians to hire their local cinema and sell tickets via social media to one-off screenings of movies. And it mirrors the convenience of the on-line world of what you want, when you want it viewing”

Lazer Team is about four small-town nobodies who stumble across an alien crash site containing an alien battle suit and find themselves responsible for the fate of the entire planet.

The film's blurb contains the intriguing claim that it's "based on a true event".
