Underbelly stars join The Reef

By Brendan Swift

The cast of shark thriller The Reef has been finalised with Underbelly‘s Damian Walshe-Howling and Gyton Grantley confirmed as two of the leads.

Zoe Naylor (McLeod’s Daughters), Adrienne Pickering (Knowing) and Kieran Darcy-Smith (The Square) round out the cast of the $3.5 million thriller, which is currently in pre-production.

The Reef, which counts Screen Australia among its financiers, is about a group of four friends, whose boat capsizes on the Great Barrier Reef, forcing them to swim for land while being stalked by a Great White Shark.

The film’s five-week shoot is scheduled to begin on October 12 in Queensland’s Hervey Bay, with additional shark footage completed in South Australia.

The film is being directed by Andrew Traucki and produced by Michael Robertson, who had success with their 2007 crocodile thriller Black Water.
