Venice Film Festival Selector in Sydney

Press Release

Paolo Bertolin, selector for the prestigious Venice International Film Festival, will be in Sydney in June to view new Australian films for preselection, as well as to be a member of the Official Competition Jury at the Sydney Film Festival.

The Venice Film Festival (28 August – 7 September) will celebrate its 70th edition in 2013. It comprises:

• an Official Competition of 20 feature films
• an Out of Competition section for 12 features
• Orizzonti, a competitive section for 20 feature films from newer filmmakers and short films of up to 20 minutes duration.

All films presented at the festival will be world premieres. Additionally, debut feature films will be eligible for the Luigi De Laurentiis Award, which has a US$100,000 prize, split between the director and the producer.

Australian films shown at the festival in 2012 included the feature film Bait 3D in Out of Competition, and the short films Marla and I'm the One in Orizzonti. In 2011 feature film Hail screened in Orizzonti, as did short film Crossbow.

For the second year, the Venice Film Market will take place during the festival, as a place for producers, buyers and sellers to do business.

The festival's regulations are available at: http://www.labiennale.org/en/cinema/regulations/
