This celebrated, ultra-intensive, one year program in screen production is notable for several key features:
The WA Screen Academy offers two awards:
- A Bachelor of Creative Industries with a major in Screen Studies. Entrance to this award requires a Diploma of Screen and Media or equivalent international qualification.
- A Master of Screen Studies. Entrance to this award requires an undergraduate degree in a related field or 5 years of industry experience.
Both awards compress 1.5 years of study into one 40 week teaching year.
Students are encouraged to choose one major area of specialization and up to two secondary ones chosen from: Scriptwriting, Directing, Producing, Editing, Cinematography, Sound (location recording and sound design) and ProductionDesign/Art Department.
The wide-ranging production program includes short films, documentaries, web series, music videos, TVCs and client-commissioned content. Students graduate with 12 or more key credits on their cv/showreel, greatly enhancing their employment prospects.
All teaching is delivered by highly experienced industry professionals. Films are shot on high end equipment including Arri Alexa.
The WA Screen Academy operates on the model of a production company for its demanding schedule of projects, a system that develops individual responsibility along with collaboration and teamwork. Productions are large scale with professional-sized crews.
The program works in close collaboration with the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) The Screen Academy provides screen training and experience to some of the best young actors, composers, designers and technicians in the country. This alliance creates a stimulating and fertile creative environment.
Students are selected for the program on a competitive basis that guarantees exceptional levels of commitment and discipline.
