Webby Award nomination for Asylum: Exit Australia

CLF received the nomination for Asylum: Exit Australia, an interactive documentary that allows users to simulate the experience of being an asylum seeker.

The project was launched in conjunction with SBS’s Go Back to Where You Came From TV series and was produced by CLF’s Chris Sullivan with executive producers Frank Verheggen and Dan Fill, in association with the Refugee Council of Australia, and with the support and assistance of Screen Australia’s National Documentary Program, Screen Australia’s Innovation Fund, SBS Online and Film Victoria. It previously received a Special Commendation at the United Nations Association of Australia
Media Peace Awards 2011.

Hailed as the "internet's highest honor" by The New York Times, the Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the internet, including websites, interactive advertising & media, online film & video, and mobile & apps. Established in 1996, the 16th Annual Webby Awards received nearly 10,000 entries from over 60 countries worldwide. The Webby Awards is presented by The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS).

Asylum: Exit Australia is the second of three innovative factual projects CLF produced in collaboration with SBS. The first, Immigration Nation: Building Multicultural Australia, was selected as an Official Honoree at the last years Webby Awards and was shortlisted as a Finalist for a New South Wales Premier’s History Award.

Currently in production is Wonderland (working title); an online interactive documentary by first time directors David Elliot-Jones, Lachlan McLeod and Louis Dai. The project is an investigation into the Indian Student Crisis; a world where thousands of vulnerable young people have been left to face exploitation, poverty and racial violence in the very country they were told would provide their dream future. It is developed and produced in association with SBS, produced in association with Screen Australia and with the assistance of Film Victoria.
