I am Love tells the tale of a tragic love story set at the turn of the millennium in Milan. Emma Recchi (Tilda Swinton), the stylish matriarch of the Recchi household, finds her family life take sudden turn when her father-in-law dies, leaving the family business in the hands of her husband and her son Edoardo Jr (Flavio Parenti). Struggling to cope with the feeling that she no longer has a place in her children’s lives, Emma travels to Nice, stopping in Sanremo where she feels a sense of joy and freedom that comes from being in a new place on her own.
A passionate encounter with her son’s business partner Antonio (Edoardo Gabbriellini) helps Emma escape the loneliness and isolation of her life. Faced with reality, however, Emma learns that freedom comes with tragic consequences.
The film recently featured at the Sydney Film Festival.
