Aussie Horror Film Hits SHRIEKFEST 2012

Press Release from Amanda Kuhn

The Australian made award winning supernatural film ‘Muirhouse’ has been Officially Selected as the only foreign feature film to screen at this years SHRIEKFEST Film Festival in LA.

“We are thrilled to be waving the Aussie flag at this iconic festival” Writer and Director Tanzeal Rahim comments “’Muirhouse’ has had a great ride this year and being invited to appear at SHRIEKFEST is the cherry on top!”

‘Muirhouse’ has already been recognized in the US by winning ‘Best Foreign Feature Film’ at the recent Fright Night Film Festival in Louisville; this followed the premiere screening to a packed house during this years Marche Du Film in Cannes.

“I have always wanted to make a film that stayed true to old school horror” Tanzeal says “I am a huge fan of the icons like Alfred Hitchcock and David Cronenberg and wanted to make a fresh, relative and local film that would appeal not only to Australians but to a global audience.”

‘Muirhouse’ was shot on location in small Australian country town Junee, New South Wales, in what is considered Australias most haunted location; The Monte Cristo Homestead.

“We choose this location because it had an un-wavered reputation for authentic hauntings and experiences,” Tanzeal continues “consistently this homestead gives even non-believers unexplained experiences. This place is so active that we were sure we would get some realistic encounters – and we did!”

‘Muirhouse’ is played out through the eyes of fictional ghost hunter Philip Muirhouse and follows his experience spending a night alone in the house. Shot in similar style to ‘The Blair Witch Project’ and ‘Paranormal Activity’ not all the scenes shown within the film are C.G.I incorporated. All the cast and crew were affected by a haunting experience; even unexplained activity was captured and is kept in the final cut of the film.

“We spent a lot of time at the homestead to shoot this movie and I can assure you that there are things in the film that we did not add – these are real experiences captured and left in the film; making it a more authentic journey for the audience.”

Muirhouse will screen at SHRIEKFEST on Friday 5th October at 8.45pm.
