Barrett heading to Darwin Film Festival

Press release from Tourism NT

Darwin is hosting its premiere International Film Festival in the ‘Top End’ and has secured the acclaimed film director, Shirley Barrett, winner of the Camera D'Or for Best First Film at Cannes. The Darwin International Film Festival will run from Wednesday 15 to Sunday 19 September and feature nine amazing films which have not been screened in the Territory before.

Shirley will be a special guest at the opening night of the festival this Wednesday 15 September at the outdoor Deckchair Cinema. The night will feature her latest film, South Solitary – a romantic yet endearing story set in a lighthouse during the 1920s. The audience will be treated to an exclusive question and answer opportunity at the end of the film, to ask Shirley questions about the film and her career.

The Darwin International Film Festival has also secured the Australian premiere of Storm. The film won the Amnesty International Film Prize at the Berlin International Film Festival and is coming to Australia exclusively for Darwin audiences. Storm is a tense political thriller set around the International Criminal Tribunal in The Hague following the conflict in Yugoslavia.
