BO Report: Civil War dominates as Mother’s Day, A Month of Sundays debut

Disney's Captain America: Civil War debuted on 283 screens last week, grossing a whopping $13.8 million to leave studio stablemate The Jungle Book in the dust. 

In its third week, The Jungle Book dropped sixty percent to take $2.3 million over the weekend, bringing its total earnings to $24.3 million so far.

Eddie the Eagle dropped fifty-one percent in week two, ringing up $1.2 million on 276 screens over the weekend. The Hugh Jackman-starrer has now brought in $5.5 million.

Other than Civil War, the highest-grossing debut was Mother's Day, starring Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston and Kate Hudson, which rang up $1.5 million on 253 screens. 

That film may have poached some ticket-buyers from Melissa McCarthy's The Boss, which dropped sixty-five percent in its third week, bringing its total to $5.6 million off 241 screens.

Meanwhile Disney's Zootopia dropped seventy-one percent in its seventh week for weekend earnings of $492,527, and has now made $27.3 million.

eOne's Allegiant: Part 1 pulled in slightly less in its third week, a long way behind previous installments in the franchise, and is sitting on $5.4 million overall.

The highest per-screen average ($14,810) after Civil War belonged to Mandarin-language film Finding Mr Right 2, which raked in $222,146 on fifteen screens.

Directed by Xiao Lu Xue, Finding Mr Right 2 narrowly beat Helen Mirren's Eye in the Sky over the weekend. The drone thriller has made $2.4 million so far, and is still on 91 screens after six weeks.

Also sticking around after six weeks is Fox's Kung Fu Panda 3, which dropped seventy-seven percent to bring its cume to $12.8 million.

The Jack Black animation rounded out the top ten, narrowly pipping Madman's A Month of Sundays, starring Anthony LaPaglia and Julia Blake. 

Matt Saville's film debuted on 41 screens, ringing up $195,102 for a per-screen average of $4,338.

Among other Australian titles, Jen Peedom's Sherpa is still on 36 screens after five weeks, dropping only twenty-nine percent last week to bring its total to $935,259.

Paul Ireland's Pawno is on 23 screens and has made $98,823 in two weeks, while Simon Stone's The Daughter is still on 44 screens after seven weeks, for total takings so far of $1,658,570.
