The program for the fourth annual Brisbane Underground Film Festival (BUFF) was announced today, with three days of diverse and provocative films screening at Brisbane Powerhouse from November 21.

Beloved filth icon & underground drag icon Divine will open the festival this year in I AM DIVINE, the definitive documentary about John Waters’ muse & friend. Following close behind is PEACHES DOES HERSELF, the queer cabaret rock opera directed by performance artist & musician Peaches.

The Australian premiere of PIG DEATH MACHINE, the first film in ten years from living underground film legend Jon Moritsugu, will close out the festival, after screenings of BUFF alumnus Zach Clark’s third feature WHITE REINDEER (a sad Christmas movie with strippers & dildos) & SEE YOU NEXT TUESDAY, an award-winning and hilarious debut black comedy.

Also screening is acclaimed Sundance & Rotterdam favourite IT FELT LIKE LOVE, which frankly explores the burgeoning sexuality of a precocious teenage girl, and VIGILANTE VIGILANTE, a documentary about curmudgeonly graffiti removalists which raises interesting questions about public space and creative expression which have become increasingly relevant since Campbell Newman took office.

All features will be screened with Australian short films selected from the submissions of filmmakers all over the country.

Festival director Nina Riddel urged Brisbanites looking for a good time to be adventurous in their viewing choices this year.

“Astute cinephiles will notice BUFF’s dates correspond with another festival this year” she said. “I’m hoping to provide alternative options from the safe, commercial stuff and give people a chance to see something fun that might never be screened here again.”

BUFF is generously supported by Brisbane Powerhouse.
