Celebration of Molly Meldrum’s 50 years in the music industry

Foxtel’s MAX music channel celebrates Australia’s most iconic voice on music, Ian ‘Molly’ Meldrum, on his 50-year milestone in the music industry by marking the occasion with an entire weekend dedicated to the man with the signature cowboy hat.

From the ground-breaking music show Countdown to Hey Hey It’s Saturday, it has been an extraordinary, eccentric and action packed ride for Molly and it’s not over yet. This December MAX pays tribute to Molly’s 50th year in the music industry, kicking off the weekend on Saturday December 6 with Molly’s All Star Top 50 Countdown and culminating on Sunday December 7, with the premiere of Molly Meldrum: The Artist’s Story.

Molly Meldrum: The Artist’s Story is the first authorised biography, as told by Molly himself and all those on the inside of his career, uncovering the exclusive, untold story of one of Australia’s greatest music legends. The documentary unearths Molly’s finest musical moments, from the legendary interviews, to the moments that changed Molly and his viewing audience.

Celebrating Molly as a successful critic, journalist, presenter and record producer, this documentary utilises a wealth of archival footage as well as recent interviews to follow this iconic Australian chronologically through his illustrious career. The story of Molly Meldrum is told through exclusive interviews with Molly himself. MAX also speaks to some of the people who have impacted Molly’s life and career from Kylie Minogue, Jimmy Barnes and Daryl Somers.

Described as the single most important influence in Australian pop music, Molly Meldrum is responsible for the institution that was Countdown, and has spent the last four decades uncovering, showcasing and supporting emerging talent and promoting the finest music the world has to offer. From David Bowie and Madonna to Michael Jackson and Prince Charles, the world’s biggest artists and personalities have sat down to speak with him.
