Flickerfest Tour continues

Flickerfest Tour goes for the big finish – Melbourne, Townsville, Canowindra (NSW)

After travelling the nation since January bringing the worlds best short films to audiences all over Australia from Byron to Hobart to Broome, the Flickerfest traveling road-show is gearing up for the big finish this weekend in Townsville, Melbourne and Canowindra for a massive closing bash amongst the vines at the Rosnay Organic Vineyards.

MELBOURNE

Flickerfest, Australia’s premier international short film festival opens in Melbourne with a world-class program of multi-award winning shorts, made by Melbourne filmmakers, and closes the following night with a celebration of some of the best Oscar-winning and nominated shorts from across the world. Flickerfest screens for 2 nights only at Kino Cinemas, on Thursday 25 and Friday 26 March.

Opening night on Thursday 25 March features 2 separate programs of award-winning Melbourne shorts specially curated for Melbourne, with opening night drinks in between.
The Best of Melbourne Shorts Programme 1 features nine films, all of which have screened in Festivals around the country and the world and includes two Melbourne premieres, whilst six of the eight films in The Best of Melbourne Shorts Programme 2 will have their Melbourne premiere at Flickerfest – including CELESTIAL AVENUE, winner of the Grand Prize at Rhode Island International Film Festival and Ariel Kleiman’s YOUNG LOVE which received an Honourable Mention at Sundance earlier this year.

Screening alongside this fabulous local showcase will be a tribute to Flickerfest’s Academy® accreditation status with a programme of Oscar winners and nominees from the past three years that have been widely embraced and received by audiences all across Australia, on our national tour. In this very special Melbourne only edition of the Oscar Shorts Programme, Flickerfest is proud to present LOGORAMA – winner of this year’s Academy® Award for Best Short Animation from the outstanding H5 Collective in France. Spectacular car chases, an intense hostage crisis, wild animals rampaging through the city… a culture jam of epic proportions. The programme also features films from Germany, Canada, France and Australia, all of which have won or been nominated for an Academy Award. Melbourne-based producer Stuart Parkyn will be introducing THE SAVIOUR, and Producer Tamara Anghie will be introducing NEW BOY both highlights of the programme.

The Best of Australian Shorts Programme features recent multi-award winning Franswa Sharl, Oscar® nominated Miracle Fish, and crowd-pleaser Celestial Avenue, winner of the Flickerfest Madman Award for Best Australian Short Film.

Franswa Sharl – which had its world premiere at Flickerfest in January. Franswa Sharl has won a top prize at the Berlinale – the Crystal Bear for the Best Short Film, continuing its Australian success after winning the IF Media Award for most Popular Film at Flickerfest 2010.

With all the buzz surrounding the recent Australian nomination, why not slip into something a bit glam and shimmy up the most dazzling red carpet of programmes on the Saturday night for Oscar Shorts – the best Oscar winning and nominated films from the past 2 years in recognition of Flickerfest’s Academy® accredited status. Highlights include Oscar winners Toyland from Germany and The Mozart of Pickpockets from France, nominated animated film Presto! from Pixar Studios, and trip the light fantastic with the psychedelic animation I Met the Walrus starring John Lennon from the Beatles.
