"Nina Curtis, who made Nan and a Whole Lot of Trouble. I think she's a huge talent. She's an indigenous director and this is her third film in Flickerfest. I think she's got a particular talent for comedy".
"Kacie Anning, who directed First & Second and also directed our trailer. I'm really impressed with Kacie, a really young filmmaker who's had two films in Flickerfest".
"Andrew Chambers. I loved his Detectives of Noir Town, a great little animation. We don't see a whole lot of animation now – it's incredibly labour intensive".
"Scott Dale, who directed Beyond the Water's Edge. At thirty-three minutes it's probably the longest Australian short we're screening. Super impressive. I've never seen any work from that filmmaker and I just thought 'wow'. Really tense, very well done, very moving in parts."
Flickerfest launches tomorrow night and runs until January 17.
