Gruen transfers to NZ

Press release from ABC

ABC Commercial has sold all three series of the acclaimed panel show, The Gruen Transfer (32 x 10’) to MediaWorks TV to be broadcast on New Zealand’s TV3.

The fast and funny series about advertising, how it works and how it works on us, is designed to make audiences look differently at the constructed world around them. More than an exposé. Sharper than a satire. It’s about truth in advertising.

Hosted by comedian Wil Anderson, The Gruen Transfer has been a ratings powerhouse – it became ABC1’s best performing entertainment premiere ever with its first episode seen by 1.287 million viewers. It was also voted Best Light Entertainment series on Australian television at the 2010 AFI Awards.

Director of ABC Commercial, Lynley Marshall, welcomed the sale.

She said that many of the campaigns and topics discussed in the series were just as familiar to New Zealander audiences as they were to Australians.

“As they said in one of the several pitch segments that featured New Zealand content – it was 100% there for the taking!”

The Gruen Transfer  is a Zapruder’s other films co-production with ABC-TV.

Executive Producers are Andrew Denton, Anita Jacoby and Sophia Zachariou. The show was co-created by Andrew Denton and Jon Casimir.
