Lleyton Hewitt helps Seven smash Australian Open viewing records

Lleyton Hewitt helped deliver Channel 7 a night TV Australian Open peak audience of 2.47 million combined, along with a record 581,000 streams on the 7Tennis app.

That number of streams surpasses the Day 1 record of 550,000 as well as the previous record from the 2015 Melbourne Cup Day of 488,000.

Bernard Tomic’s victory on 7TWO captured a peak of 560,000 as he advanced to the second round.

The Australian Open Night session on Channel 7 plus 7TWO averaged 1.86 million for the night in the metro areas. It attracted an average metro audience of 1.2 million on Channel 7 and a Night session metro peak of 1.72 million, along with a Melbourne peak audience of 687,000.

During the day, Channel 7 plus 7TWO’s coverage delivered a combined average audience of 617,000 as viewers watched Australian Sam Groth go through to the next round.

Over 5.2m Australians have watched the first two days of Seven’s coverage on Channel 7 and 7TWO.

The Open helped Channel 7 lead the night in primetime, with an overall share of 37.4 against Nine’s 24.2 and Ten’s 16.5. 

Seven was also top dog on the primary channel with a 29.7 share over Channel 9 with 14.7 and Channel 10 with 10.7.
