LSD Man takes top gong at Smartfone Flick Fest

Steve McGrath's LSD Man has taken out the Best Film Award at the first SmartFone Flick Fest in Sydney.

The gala awards ceremony for the inaugural SmartFone Flick Fest, Australia’s only dedicated smartphone film festival for filmmakers of all ages, was held at Sydney’s Chauvel Cinema.

There were more than 250 Australian and international entries for the competition from as far afield as the US, UK, Iran, India, Indonesia, Thailand and Ghana.

In other awards, Swathy Deepak (India) won Best Director and Best Cinematography for Dog Tail.

Jim Mimms (Sydney) took home the Best Screenplay award for Hit.

McGrath also won best actor for LSD Man and Nicola Wood won Best Actress for her work in Goal.

The Kids Flick Pick winner was Sean Notley, 16, for The Day Before It's Due, while Tayla Dawon's Cystic Fibrosis won The People's Choice Award.

SF3 movies must be under 6 minutes and 30 seconds and shot entirely on a smartphone or tablet.

The competition is open to filmmakers of any age or level of experience from Australia and overseas.

The festival provides a platform for filmmakers, from beginners to professionals, to bring their ideas to life and have their films seen by a global audience, without the need for expensive equipment or a big budget.
