Nickelodeon wins channel of the year

Following a record number of viewer’s votes, the winners have been announced at the star-studded 7th Annual ASTRA Awards last night, with Nickelodeon being named Channel of the Year.

The winners of the viewer voted categories are: Favourite Program – Selling Houses Australia, The LifeStyle Channel; Favourite International Program – Grand Designs, The LifeStyle Channel; Favourite International Personality or Actor – Gordon Ramsay, The LifeStyle Channel; Favourite Male Personality – Merrick & Rosso, The Comedy Channel; and Favourite Female Personality – Ruby Rose, MTV.

The ASTRA Awards are held annually to toast excellence in subscription television, above all celebrating what the service is ultimately renowned for: it’s unique range and variety of programs across it’s 80 channels. This year’s awards not only saw a record number of entries across all channels, but a record number of public votes.

ASTRA CEO Debra Richards says the range of winners illustrates the variety of subscription television’s service to the public, “Practically each of our genres shone last night with awards going to kids, comedy, lifestyle, sport, music, history, news and business. Whether the category was judged by peers or the public, it’s testament to the fact that our service covers something for everyone”.

Subscribers can catch highlights of the ASTRA Awards across all subscription television channels from Tuesday April 21st. A full broadcast will be shown On Demand for FOXTEL iQ subscribers from Thursday April 23.
