On the 13th February, 2009 the AFI award winning documentary, NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD picked up the prestigious Film Critics Circle Association (FCCA) award for Best Documentary – voted by a national body of professional film critics in Australia.

The film, which energetically chronicles the wild, untold story of Australian genre cinema, has also been honoured with the opening night spot at the 15th London Australian Film Festival at the Barbican on March 12th.

Director Mark Hartley will introduce the film at this already sold-out gala screening before heading off to present the doc at the Off-screen Film Festival in Brussels, The Copenhagen International Film Festival and The Hong Kong International Film Fest. Hartley is also attending MIPDOC in Cannes as the Australian “documentary trailblazer” delegate.

Since its world premiere opening night screening at the 2008 Melbourne International Film Festival, the acclaimed “Ozploitation” documentary has had pulses pounding at over 30 festivals – including Toronto, Rotterdam, London, Warsaw, Argentina, Helsinki and The American Film Institute Fest in Los Angeles.

The film has also been responsible for triggering Ozploitation retrospectives in many cities across the globe (including Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Austin, Brussels, Amsterdam and London) which have been accompanied by welcome appearances from Ozploitation auteurs Brian Trenchard-Smith, Antony I. Ginnane, Philippe Mora and Richard Brennan (to name but a few).

On March 13th NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD commences its UK theatrical season at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) in London before being released on DVD in the UK on March 30th through Optimum. A theatrical release in the United States is to follow in July/August through Magnolia followed closely by France and Germany.
