Oscar nominee not resting on laurels

Press Release from Druid Films

Two Druid Films-produced short films will screen together at St Kilda Film Festival on the 26th of May.

The two short films are Purple Flowers, a touching tale of two teenagers in love, written and directed by Julian Ryan, and Cryo, an epic sci-fi film that tells of a personal struggle to save mankind, written by Matthew Dabner and directed by Luke Doolan.

Cryo was developed and funded through Screen Australia’s Springboard initiative. The short film was devised to compliment the feature film Cargo, which Druid Films is developing with Screen Australia and Executive Producer Paula Wagner.

It was also announced today that Cryo will screen at the Sydney Film Festival on the 8th and 15th of June. Both Bailey and Doolan will be present to introduce the film. The pair have several feature films in development, as well as another short film with Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds.

On top of this Druid Films recently received development funding from Screen NSW to develop a project with young director Tobias Andersson (short film Pop). The film, Death In The Family, aims to re-invent and personalise the zombie film genre. Script consultancy will be handled by Greg Mclean (Wolf Creek, Rogue).

Drew Bailey has also teamed up with Pauline Chan (33 Postcards) to develop Western Kimchi. A fish out of water, romantic comedy that is being written by Nakia Trower-Shuman, based on a story by Trower-Shuman and Sarah Katin. The script is loosely based on the girls time spent teaching english in Korea. Druid Films acquired the rights to the script last year while Drew was working with Daniel Dubiecki (Up In The Air, Juno) at Paramount in Los Angeles.

Druid Films is also actively developing projects with established director Tim Bullock as well as new comer Katrina Mercer.

Drew Bailey continues to produce TVCs at Luscious International with Sebastien.
