SBS signs deal with Blackfella Films

Press release from SBS

SBS has signed a three-year deal with multi award winning Blackfella Films, continuing the partnership that produced the landmark documentary series First Australians.

The production and development deal will result in a slate of four major drama and documentary projects to be delivered over the next three years.

SBS’s Director of Content – Television and Online, Matt Campbell said SBS is delighted to have secured the output deal with one of Australia’s leading creative companies.

“Blackfella Films did a sensational job for us with First Australians and it’s logical for us to continue that relationship with a slate which will tell some of Australia’s most powerful contemporary stories.

“Rachel Perkins and Darren Dale are world leaders in their work and we are proud they are working with us on these projects.”

On Saturday night, First Australians added to its swag of prizes to date with an AFI award for Best Documentary Series. The series has previously won a Logie, a UN Media Peace Award, the Premier’s History Prize for Best Script as well as awards from the Australian Writer’s Guild and Australian Directors Guild.

Rachel Perkins from Blackfella Films says she’s delighted the company is continuing its successful partnership with SBS which has delivered, among other things, the landmark First Australians series.

"Blackfella Films’ relationship with SBS has created distinctive content for Australian audiences and we are excited about the range of projects we’ll be developing and producing with SBS under this new arrangement."
