Storm Surfers 3D, produced by Marcus Gillezeau and Ellenor Cox and directed by Chris Nelius and Justin McMillan, will have its international premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. The film will screen in the Real to Reel program, which features documentaries on hot topics or which provide intimate access into dramatic lives.

Storm Surfers 3D will join two other Australian feature films already announced by Toronto – Lore and The Sapphires.

The film is an epic, character-driven adventure, following two best friends on their quest to hunt down and ride the biggest and most dangerous waves around Australia. It features Australian surf legends, Tom Carroll and Ross Clarke-Jones.

“It is a privilege for Storm Surfers 3D to be accepted into such a prestigious festival and to be recognised for its broader appeal and all the universal themes contained in the film such as friendship, courage and passion,” said producers Ellenor Cox and Marcus Gillezeau.

Storm Surfers 3D is the next instalment in what began as a successful television series which has sold to more than 70 countries, been viewed by more than 20 million people, had 1.5 million views online ( and over time has generated a massive fan base.

Screen Australia originally supported the producers Ellenor Cox and Marcus Gillezeau through investment in the TV series – before providing development and production finance for the 3D feature film and multimedia package.
